LAS VEGAS - A devoted father, a loving husband and a great friend is how friends and relatives are remembering the man stabbed to death at an AM/PM store Wednesday.
The family of Balente Gonzalez tells 8 News Now the victim leaves behind a wife and three children.
Many people who spoke with 8 News NOW had nothing but kind words to say about Gonzalez.
A senseless act of violence has torn apart a family.
"To actually know somebody that went through a nasty crime of such nature, now it hits home, it especially sucks," said Tiffany Holland, neighbor.
Balente Gaonzalez' family says he was the man killed during a stabbing spree Wednesday morning.
"He'd go out of his way to greet you and talk to you and make sure that there was some kind of positive interaction there," Holland said.
She called Gonzalez a kind person who spread warmth everywhere he went.
"For his family to unexpectedly have to go through this loss, you know I feel very sad for them, it's very unfortunate. My prayers are with them," she said.
More information has been uncovered about the suspect Richi Briones' troubling past. He was accused of stabbing a person at an apartment on Stewart Avenue in November. He was held briefly for mental health reasons but was released from jail and never prosecuted.
"I just go through giving them $100 to help bury him. They didn't have life insurance," an unidentified neighbor said.
Now an innocent man is dead and many questions remain.
"He's the one that got that apartment for him, his wife and those kids. He made sure that they had food on the table. He made sure the lights and gas and rent and bills were paid," the neighbor said.
Briones has been charged with murder, attempted murder and assault.
8 News Now Reporter Shakala Alvaranga has the story about the investigation, the suspect, and the victim.
