Helpless and confused, that's how neighbors say they felt after gunshots rang out in broad daylight Friday.

“We're like what? We thought it was fireworks,” neighbor Veronica Fralik said.

According to North Las Vegas Police, witnesses heard gunshots on Hassel Avenue before 1 p.m. when police arrived, they found a 31-year-old man shot later died at scene.

I'm like "oh my god some mother is going to find out that her son's dead and that's what kills me,” Fralik said.

Another resident, Carlos Morales, says it can happen even in the safest of neighborhoods.

“Well. It's going to keep happening and it's going to happen anywhere,” Morales said.

According to officers, a 26-year-old woman, who was believed to be the shooter, are investigating how she knew the victim and what led to the shooting.
