Police seeking new leads in double murder case

LAS VEGAS - A Las Vegas mother is pleading with anyone who might have information in a double murder case to come forward.

"She is our first child. She's a sister to three siblings and the ripple effect of her death has still not even begun to be felt," said Connie Land's, shooting victim's mother.

Land's 21-year-old daughter Sydney Land was killed, along with 19-year-old Nehemiah Kauffman on Oct. 27, 2016 at an apartment complex at 4400 S. Hualapai Way.

"As a family we're pleading with the community. She did not deserve this. She did not deserve to die the way she did. So, I am asking people, please come forward with any information you have about this case so there is some resolution and these people are off the streets. Land said.

Metro Lt. Dan MCGrath said, it's believed that Kauffman may have been the target of the attack and Sydney happened to be there.

"He did have some associations with some criminal activity that we uncovered," Lt. McGrath said.

Police did receive a number of tips on a man named Shane Valentine and did arrest him in another shooting case, but Lt. McGrath said, he is not a suspect in this shooting.

Lt. McGrath said it appears that the shooting suspect was allowed into the apartment and may have known at least one of the victims.

"Today is a request for people to refresh your minds back to last year and to think if there's anything that you remember, a conversation, something that would trigger these people that killed them brutally and left them," Land said.
